How to Get Service Account JSON Key
Step 1: Go to Google Cloud Console
1. Visit https://console.cloud.google.com
2. Select your project (or create a new one)
Step 2: Enable Google Drive API
1. Go to APIs & Services â Library
2. Search for "Google Drive API"
3. Click on it and press Enable
Step 3: Create Service Account
Option A - Direct Link (Easiest):
1. Go to: Service Accounts Page
2. Select your project
3. Click + CREATE SERVICE ACCOUNT
Option B - From Credentials Page:
1. Go to APIs & Services â Credentials
2. Look for "Service Accounts" section/tab (NOT "OAuth 2.0 Client IDs")
3. Click + CREATE SERVICE ACCOUNT
4. Enter a name (e.g., "studysnap-drive-backup")
5. Click CREATE AND CONTINUE
6. Skip role assignment (click CONTINUE)
7. Click DONE
Step 4: Create and Download JSON Key
1. After creating, you'll see the service account in the list (email ends with .iam.gserviceaccount.com)
2. Click on the service account email/name (it's a clickable link)
3. You'll see the service account details page
4. Click on the KEYS tab (at the top)
5. Click ADD KEY â Create new key
6. Select JSON format
7. Click CREATE - JSON file will download automatically
đĄ The JSON will look like:

Step 5: Share Drive Folder with Service Account
1. Open the downloaded JSON file
2. Find the "client_email" field (looks like: xxx@xxx.iam.gserviceaccount.com)
3. Go to your Google Drive folder: Open Folder
4. Right-click folder â Share
5. Paste the service account email and give it Editor access
6. Click Send
Step 6: Copy JSON to Admin Panel
Important: Copy the ENTIRE JSON file content!
1. Open the downloaded JSON file (`studysnapai-478707-9ec1f5771a21.json`) in a text editor
2. Select ALL content: Press Ctrl+A (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+A (Mac)
3. Copy: Press Ctrl+C (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+C (Mac)
4. Paste into the "Service Account JSON Key" field above: Press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V
5. Click Validate JSON button to verify it's correct
6. You should see: â Valid Service Account JSON! and the service account email
7. Click Save Settings
- Copying only part of the JSON (must include opening { and closing })
- Adding extra spaces or characters
- Copying from a formatted/preview view instead of raw text
